what were your RESPONSIBILITIES as an intern?

During my internship, I worked with the Marketing & Communications team to support the organization’s communications, media, and outreach efforts. My responsibilities included researching and compiling media contacts, writing media advisories, and assisting with promotional materials such as commercial scripts. I also supported local media relations and government relations by researching special education policy and attending meetings with a government affairs professional.

What was your favorite/most memorable part of your internship

One of the most memorable experiences was helping with the Idaho Potato Truck event, where I was able to see firsthand how an organization can use a fun community event to generate engagement and awareness. What made the experience especially memorable was seeing the students’ faces light up when they saw the giant potato. It was clear that the experience was a really big deal to them, and seeing their excitement made me happy to be a part of creating that experience

Walk us through a day in the life of your internship?

A typical day at my internship varied depending on the projects and events taking place. Some days were spent in the office working on social media, marketing materials, or research, while other days took me into the Rochester community. I frequently visited Mary Cariola’s schools and residential communities to support events and capture content, as well as visit local news and radio stations to assist with advertising and media coverage. I enjoyed that no two days were exactly the same and that I was able to see different sides of nonprofit marketing firsthand.
